The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy based on the image of the child and human beings as strong potentials for development. Young children are individuals who are curious about the world around them and have the powerful potential to learn from all that surrounds them. The four main principals of the Reggio Emilia Approach are:
- Emergent – based on the interests of the child
- In Depth Projects – studies of concepts and ideas, that may take long periods of time to bring to fruition
- Representational Development – presentation of new ideas and concepts in multiple forms (art, drama, music, puppetry etc)
- Collaboration – encouragement of working together to problem solve
We have incorporated the main principals into our program as a way to expand the child’s learning and creativity, therefore, meeting the child’s intellect in every direction!
